Antenatal/Post natal Care
Antenatal Care is the clinical assessment of mother and foetus during pregnancy, for the purpose of obtaining the best possible outcome for the mother and child.
The aims of antenatal care are to optimise maternal and foetal health, to offer women maternal and foetal screening, to make medical or social interventions available to women where indicated, to improve women’s experience of pregnancy and birth and to prepare women for motherhood whatever their risk status.
Postnatal care (PNC) is the care given to the mother and her newborn baby immediately after the birth and for the first six weeks of life. This period marks the establishment of a new phase of family life for women and their partners.
At Physiofit Our Experienced physiotherapists with a special interest in women’s health assist with various musculoskeletal changes that occur in the child-bearing year. Basic antenatal or postnatal exercise programs are designed for each patient. In addition, further strategies are used to effectively treat:
- Low and mid back pain, Neck, Sacro-Iliac Joint pain (+/- sciatica), Pubic Symphysis pain, Carpal tunnel symptoms
- Piriformis muscle spasm
- Rectus diastasis (abdominal bulging)
- Rectus Diastasis

- Post caesarean pain (after healing)
- Perineal pain and discomfort
- Bladder/bowel control difficulties and constipation/straining
These conditions are often greatly relieved with various strategies including pain relieving modalities, deep massage and other manual therapies, core-stability, Pelvic floor muscle strengthening, postural stretches, specific muscle balancing and co-ordination techniques (including retraining, positioning and patterning) and sometimes external supports and splints.
